In 1876, Lord James Balch and his wife See-ahm-itsa-ah transferred property ownership to the fourteen stətíɬəm nəxʷsƛ̕áy'əm' families that contributed to the purchase of Jamestown.
These deeds were signed by Lord James Balch and the respective fourteen stətíɬəm nəxʷsƛ̕áy'əm' family representatives in the presence of Myron Eells and Charles Hyde on July 8th, 1876.
The documents were officially certified by B.G. Hotchkiss, Probable Judge for Clallam County and recorded by John Morris Clallam County Auditor on the same day.
The physical documents can be found within the Clallam County Deeds 1873-1881, Volume D, held at the Washington State Archives, Northwest Regional Branch in Bellingham, WA.
Also included in this exhibit is the July 8th,1876 deed where Lord Jim Balch purchased 2.5 acres of additional land from B.G. and Rebecca Hotchkiss for $2 in gold coin for use as the Tribal Cemetery.
This document was signed, sealed, and delivered in the presence of Myron Eells and Helen Wood, certified by H.W. Watkins, Justice of the Peace for Clallam County, and recorded by John Morris, Clallam County
auditor on July 25th, 1876.
